Workshop Leading and Training

Peter
has been one of Britain’s leading trainers in workshop technique, creative
leadership and improvisation. Gillian Moore Artistic Director of the London
Sinfonietta decribed him, in 2003, as “not only the inventor of the workshop
form in this country but remains its best exponent”.
He has led training for most British orchestras and opera companies; in particular he led the first ever training programmes for the City of London Sinfonia (1989-92), LSO (1990-92), and the RPO (1995).
He has also worked regularly with the London Sinfonietta, bcmg and with organisations as diverse as Live Music Now, The Menuhin School, Arvon Foundation, South Bank Centre, Dartington Summer School, Sonic Arts, Association of British Orchestras, London Contemporary Dance, Skyros Centre, Greece, Bhavan Indian Cultural Centre, COMA, and the ISM.
From 1996-2005 he worked on the Creative Projects Summer School with members of the National Youth Orchestra.
He has made 40 visits to Canada since 1985, for the 'Musical Performance and Communication' programme of the University of Toronto, for 'Orchestras Canada', (several national training programmes), and for many individual orchestras.
Other countries where Peter has led workshops include Norway (Riksconcerter), Sweden, (Riksconcerter) Finland (Sibelius Academy), Germany (Deutche Kammerphilharmonie) Austria (Carl Orff Institute) Belgium (Ars Musica), Holland (Gavignes Foundation), Italy, Spain ('La Stage" training for young professional chamber musicians) Java (while studying Gamelan) Japan (Society for Contemporary Japanese Music/Tokyo University) and Australia (Youth Music Australia)
He has trained the innovative training orchestra the SouthBank Sinfonia in workshop techniques since their inception, combining it with his ‘Associate Artist’ role.
In 2006/07, Peter was on the panel of judges for the BBC Young Composer Competition and led workshops in Glasgow, Manchester and London.
